Words
I hear the words as fresh as yesterday...
I sit at a small lift top desk in the second grade, a shy seven year old boy, in the mid 60’s... The comforting words of my teacher, “draw me a picture, Rudy”.
I blink my eyes and I’m here...
A grown man, with all the responsibilities any one man could have and a history of choices, some good and some bad. Today I find my most important choice and strongest challenge comes from within. I’m challenged to push aside the cobwebs of imposed conformity and traditional thinking, so that I may find my place… in my color of the world… in my mind.
One thing remains constant… I have not gone through a single day without glancing at someone or something and pondering the possibilities of a painting. I take my thoughts to sleep and in my sleep it all comes together. I wake at four in the morning and I am transformed into that young boy sitting at the lift top desk… only… the desk is now an easel.
Thank you and always remember…
Art Is Long ~ Life Is Short

Rudy is currently working on a series of
portrait paintings of artists who,
over many years,
have influenced his work.

Below you will see Rudy's portraits
of the artists as they are completed.

"It goes thus:
Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world. No amount of skillful invention can replace the essential element of imagination. One of the weaknesses of much abstract painting is the attempt to substitute the inventions of the intellect for a pristine imaginative conception. The inner life of a human being is a vast and varied realm and does not concern itself alone with stimulating arrangements of color, form, and design. The term "life" as used in art is something not to be held in contempt, for it implies all of existence, and the province of art is to react to it and not to shun it. Painting will have to deal more fully and less obliquely with life and nature's phenomena before it can again become great".
